Overview
A multi-year programme of planned preventative maintenance for fire and smoke dampers across four UHB sites — Good Hope (831), Heartlands (2,312), Solihull (200) and Queen Elizabeth (200). The scope covers a complete, accurate asset register, regular BS 9999:2017 testing, and detailed reports with as-fitted drawings.
Challenges
- Mixed history — multiple previous contractors left inconsistent records; we consolidated everything into one clear format.
- Scale & access — up to 80 blocks per hospital, a mix of motorised, mechanical and rare pneumatic dampers, all in live healthcare settings.
- Tight deadlines — two contract managers and eight engineers to hit the financial-year remedial allocation on time.
Outcome
Delivered on time with no disruption to patient services; reports flag fire-stopping/firewall issues alongside dampers, and we've helped the Trust build forward programmes for both ventilation cleaning and damper remedials — on course for a 100% pass rate over the contract.
