Overview

UCLan engaged us to inspect and maintain 1,394 fire dampers and improve a previously patchy testing service. We surveyed every area, built a detailed asset register covering all dampers, and delivered a programme of remedial works.

Challenges

  • Mixed damper types and ages — buildings constructed at different times with dampers from several manufacturers.
  • Sensitive environments — laboratories and libraries, worked around the university calendar with staggered nights and weekends to avoid exams and holidays.

Outcome

Remedials brought 300+ dampers into compliance, a 25% improvement overall. Every damper located and marked on CAD layout plans, plus a reporting tool giving fast access for fire audits — and follow-on ventilation cleaning off the back of our findings.
