Overview

We test and maintain 1,500+ fire dampers across two sites — a general hospital and a rehabilitation hospital — covering motorised and mechanical dampers from many manufacturers, including rare Numatic units. A key part of our role was bringing consistent labelling and an accurate asset register to a previously poorly-marked estate.

Challenges

  • 40% initial fail rate — extensive testing and remedials lifted compliance to over 95%.
  • Minimal disruption — dampers in theatre corridors and private rooms tested on a flexible nights/weekends schedule.
  • Inconsistent labelling — a single consistent system introduced across both sites.

Outcome

Completed on time with no disruption. Beyond dampers, we reported on surrounding fire-stopping and firewalls (per BS 9999:2017 and BESA TB 001), fitted new access doors and fusible links, and helped develop a ventilation cleaning and maintenance regime.
