Overview
We tested 1,200+ dampers across 45 buildings on three campuses, locating dampers missing from the asset list and bringing consistent labelling to a previously patchy record. Work included surveying, testing and replacing faulty dampers — some in laboratories where ventilation is safety-critical during chemical work.
Challenges
- Inconsistent labelling and missing dampers — thorough surveys produced a complete, accurate asset register.
- Lab technical issues — seized actuators that dropped but wouldn't reset were diagnosed and swapped from on-hand spares, restoring airflow and lab safety.
Outcome
200+ damper remedials (hatches, access doors, breakaway joints, full replacements) with firestopping around new installs; every damper QR-coded for instant audit access. The university then commissioned £100,000+ of further firestopping, ventilation and kitchen-extract work.
