Overview

Bangor University engaged us to survey fire doors across key buildings — from laboratory facilities to large teaching blocks, up to the 7th floor in places. We assessed the condition, compliance and function of each door (hardware, seals, structural integrity) against current fire-safety standards, then began the repairs and replacements the survey identified.

Challenges

  • Access restrictions — in sensitive areas such as animal-testing departments, mobile devices weren't allowed, so we recorded by hand and transferred to digital systems outside the restricted zones.
  • Varying building schedules — flexible early-morning and evening working to suit each department.
  • Coordination — constant contact with the estates team to handle stoppages smoothly.

Outcome

Surveys completed on time with no disruption, giving the university a clear, prioritised picture of fire-door condition — and an ongoing programme of repairs and replacements.
